Stony Brook's Women's Crew Team ended their fall season with a successful weekend, winning their first race of the year, and finishing third in another race. The races were a part of the Philadelphia Frostbite Regatta, which took place Saturday Nov., and Sunday Nov. 11.

The freezing weather didn't hold back the Seawolves from dominating their races on the Shukill River, located in Philadelphia, as they beat boats from Penn State, NYU, and Sacred Heart.

The race Stony Brook took first place in was a 2000 meter sprint race on Saturday. The winning boat comprised of Joanna Chrostowski, who sat in the strokes seat, Ashley Duval, the coxswain, Laura Longo, Danielle Savarese, and Heather Mullikin. On Sunday, the team followed their win with another successful outcome, taking third place, and medaling yet again.

Besides their successful weekend, the team, which is club team at Stony Brook, has much to be proud of. Led by a strong coaching staff made up of Cory Vilaplana (varsity coach), Robert Litzke (novice coach), Bret Harrison (novice women's coach), and John Richy (novice men's coach), the team is only getting bigger, and better. Last year's squad had only 20 members, and now there is around 30, and that number is increasing with more recruits on the way.

Now that their fall season is over, their next race won't be until after Spring Break. However, they will be training hard in the offseason, and are optimistic they will be competitive and have a successful spring season.

If anyone is interested in joining the team, men or women's, they are open for recruits. They can be reached at USBcrew@gmail.com.
